John Falconer, British Library A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia | Amateur, India
Exhibited at the Simla Fine Arts Exhibition, 1899: ‘This year Lady Curzon’s prize has been won by Sir Adelbert Talbot for six ‘Kashmir Scenes.’ It will be remembered that the gradation of exquisitely soft tones in this exhibitor’s work, and a style of landscape work he has made specially his own, never failed to win the approbation of the judges of Calcutta Shows. In this case the equality of the pictures, their appearance as a whole, the uniformity of their carved black frames (though these would have looked better without the top ornament)have presumably counted for something in the adjudging of the award’ (Journal of the Photographic Society of India, vol. XII, no. 9, September 1899, p. 161).
