Swiss photojournalist. His archive of approximately 100,000 negatives and hundreds of prints in 1989 was acquired by the Swiss Confederation and in 2006 it was given as a permanent loan to the Fotostiftung Schweiz.

1908Born in Hochdorf, Canton Lucerne, on February 14.
1915-1922Primary school in Hochdorf, secondary school in Zurich.
1923-1927Traineeship as a mechanical millwright in the Hochdorf Engineering Works.
1927-1930Studies in mechanical engineering at the Winterthur Technicum.
1931Recruit school as aircraftman soldier, Dübendorf. Radio constructor and dealer in Canton Lucerne.
1933Moved to Zurich. Decided to become a photographer.
From 1934Publication of first reportages in the Zürcher Illustrierte and over a dozen family magazines.
Voluntary work at the Photographisches Institut of the ETH Zurich (Prof. Ernst Rüst).
1938Work on the project "Twelve Communities" for the 1939 National Exhibition.
1939Active service as aircraftman soldier in Spreitenbach.
1940-1945Posted to army headquarters as a photoreporter. Reportages on everyday life in the army, etc.
1943Ein Buch vom Bauen (Festschrift Scotoni, text H. R. Schmid). Fretz and Wasmuth, Zurich.
1945Visited the war-devastated areas in Lothringen and Normandy for the Swiss Red Cross.
1946Drei Monate Ferien in der Schweiz. Landibuchverlag G. Duttweiler, Zurich.
1945-1975Publicity work with various relief organisations such as the Kinderhilfe of the SRK, Winterhilfe, Pro Juventute, Pro Infirmis etc.
1954Six weeks sojourn in Ireland photographing for the book Irlande, Ides et Calendes, Neuchâtel/Paris. Publication of the book Hélvétie, Ides et Calendes, Neuchâtel/Paris.
1956Travelled for the Kinderhilfe (SRK) to northern Greece.
1964-1985Advertising representative for the Schweizer Berghilfe.
1989Rückblende. 50 Jahre Bildberichte. Offizin Verlag, Zurich.
