Son of George Peppe (sen) and Janet Thomson. Uncle of George Tosco Peppé. Married Jessie Braidwood and had five children. His third son, Arthur, took over the management of Chota Nagpur Raj when G.T. Peppe gave it up.Trader in opium and later tea in Bihar. He supplied a number of studies of ethnic groups for inclusion in Edward Tuite Dalton's Descriptive ethnology of Bengal (1872). Also photographed architectural subjects in the 1860s.
