 [William Harvey Dignum] "Published by...";
"Dealer"; Englishman who arr. Rochester 73 &
worked as picture mounter for C.W. Woodward;
became involved in sale of views in 75; late 77
or early 78 established W.H. Dignum & Co. &
became producer & vendor of stereo views under
that name for one year in 78. His co. was
partnership with William R. Gregory who was
machinist & who returned to that trade the next
year when Dignum returned to England; Dignum's
subsequent career there unknown. Views uncommon
but #s seen to 3600s, all seen have been poor quality pirated images on cheap gray/gray RMs
with title & # patched into neg. English views
drawn mainly from Good & Blanchard; all the
European images seen are of Germany copied from
Stiehm's views pub. by the Linde Co. Issues
include "English Groups from Life", series of
tinted English genre; "Gems of England's
Scenery", "Gems of German Scenery", "Phantom
Leaves & Ferneries".
