Preparing biographies A member of the Photographic Society of Scotland and on its council in 1864, Elliot was a justice of the peace at his home of Arkleton, near Dumfries. In the society’s 1858 exhibition, he displayed mostly collodion portraits, ranging from several called Old Man to two of “Professor MacDonald.” The landscapes and architectural views that Elliot exhibited, however, were all done in calotype or waxed paper, with locales ranging throughout Scotland, from Aberdeen to Fife to Glasgow.
