A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia

 
Commercial, Sri Lanka
Joined a ferrotype studio in Chatham Street, Colombo, 1887; set up a studio at his residence in Norris Street, and also working in the Colombo branch of the Bank of India; in 1893 he married and opened the Hopetoun Studio with his brother Bertie as assistant. Won medals and diplomas at the Paris Exhibition of 1900 and the World’s Fair of 1904. Bertie André was working for Plâté and Co. by 1919. Published Illustrations of life in the Boer Camp (1901).[1]
 
A.W. Andre jnr is listed as a photographer in Keyser Street, Colombo in 1875,[2] so 1869 date of birth must be incorrect.
