John Falconer, British Library
A Biographical Dictionary of 19th Century Photographers in South and South-East Asia

Amateur, India
Indigo planter, Bustee, Benares District.
Author, Rough notes on some antiquities in the Gaya District. This communication to the society, dated Gaya 9 November 1865, describes the subjects of 51 photographs presented to the Library of the Asiatic Society. Four of the photographs are reproduced as lithographs: pl. I, Pillared portico at Nair, is very similar to and possibly reproduced from Thomas Fraser Peppé’s view;[1] pl.II, Stone figure at Genjun which is similar, but not identical to OIOC Photo 1000 (2801), there captioned Figure near the statue of Sakya Singha, at Kispa, Behar; pl. XVII, Temple of Konch from a photograph by J.H. Peppé (sic, presumably for T.F. Peppé), (see OIOC Photo 1000 (2814) for original); pl. IV, Oomga Temple, similar, but not identical to OIOC Photo 1000 (2823). The photographer of the views described is not mentioned, and it is probable that they are the work of T.F. Peppé and that William Peppé was not involved in the work.
