The exquisite photography of Nicholas Hlobeczy is augmented by ten insightful essays about the nature of art and creativity. Stressing the need for self-awareness, attunement to the movement and other means of encouraging transcindance of creativity. Hlobeczy writes about the everyday struggles of the artist, and the title is linked with a Chinese practice of binding straw tightly to use as fuel for their fires. When Hlobeczy discovered this, he understood that art could be kindling for his own inner fire. A Presence Behind the Lens is about seeing, about light, and a psychological perspective of self-knowledge.
In the spirit of Rainer Maria Rilke’s classic, Letters to a Young Poet, Hlobeczy shares his refined wisdom about the tangent point between art and the inner life.
