Jane Evelyn Atwood (1947, 15 December - ) was born - US, NY, New York. Studies of the fringes of society - prostitutes, blind children, AIDs victims, women in prison. 
  
Melville Clarke (1834, 15 December - 1878, 1 February) was born. A Captain in the Bengal Army and amateur photographer. His early photographs of Kashmir taken in 1861 illustrated his book ‘From Simla through Ladac and Cashmere’ printed in 1862. 
  
Paul Hill (1941, 15 December - ) was born - UK, Shropshire, Ludlow. British landscape photographer, journalist, author and teacher.

René Smets (1939, 15 December - ) was born - Belgium, Kerkom. Belgian contemporary interior designer and photographer with a strong interest in early alternative processes. His preference is for bromoil and bromoil transfer prints. 
  
Carl Uytterhaegen (1944, 15 December - ) was born - Belgium, Zottegem. Contemporary Belgian photographer and author. 
  
George R. Lawrence (1868, 24 February - 1938, 15 December) died - US. Used a string of kites to photograph San Francisco after the 1906 earthquake and fire. 
  
Roger Marshutz (1929, 17 October - 2007, 15 December) died. Photographed in Pusan, Korea from 1952-1954 when he was with the US Army. 
  
Lord Charles Stanhope (1753, 3 August - 1816, 15 December) died - Great Britain, Kent, Chevening. British statesman and scientist. Educated at Eton and the University of Geneva. His accession to the peerage was on 7 March 1786. He invented a printing press, a device for tuning musical instruments, calculating machines and the Stanhope Lens. 
  
Karl Struss (1886, 30 November - 1981, 15 December) died - US, CA, Los Angeles. Early American pictorialist - he later became a successful cinematographer (e.g. ‘Limelight‘, ‘Ben Hur‘, ‘The Great Dictator‘)
