Ian Berry (1934, 4 April - ) was born - UK, Lancashire, Preston. British photographer who has worked with Magnum. He was one of the photojournalists who recorded the Sharpeville massacre in South Africa. 
  
Donald Blumberg (1935, 4 April - ) was born - US, NY, Brooklyn. American photographer. 
  
Max Dupain (1911, 4 April - 1992, 27 July) was born - Australia, Sydney, Ashfield. Widely respected Australian photographer - he was given the OBE in 1982 and made a ‘Companion of Australia‘ (the country‘s highest honor in 1992). 
  
William Henry Jackson (1843, 4 April - 1942, 30 June) was born - US, NY, Keesville. Jackson worked with the railway companies and survey groups moving out into the American West. His landscape photographs are some of the most important ever made and helped define the ‘West‘. 
  
Cora Huidekoper Clarke (1851, 9 February - 1916, 2 April) died. Botanist and entomologist who belonged to the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Cambridge Entomological Club, the Boston Society of Natural History, and the Botany Group of the New England Women's Club. Alexander Henderson (1831 - 1913, 4 April) died - Canada, QC, Montreal. Scottish-born photographer who emigrated to Canada in 1855 and took up photography soon after. Through his professional career in Montreal he was unusual in taking largely outdoor photographs. 
  
Herbert List (1903, 7 October - 1975, 4 April) died - West Germany, Munich. German photographer whose work frequently featured in Vogue, Harper‘s Bazaar, The Studio, and Du.
