(Alan Griffiths, 27 January 2026) The photographer is not given on the Det Kongelige Bibliotek (The Royal Library) website but was, based on the The Royal Collection (UK), Thomas Mitchell. He was the photographer for the British Arctic Expedition, commanded by Captain George Nares (1875-1876). He trained at the Army School of Photography in Chatham and was on the "Discovery". The photographs were shown at the Photographic Society of Great Britain exhibition in 1877. The other photographer on this expedition was George White on "Alert".
