One of David Moore's favourite books was
Poet's Camera, which he'd bought in 1948 and taken with him to London. In it was a Carl Sandburg poem entitled
Fog, illustrated by a Bill Brandt photograph. In 1988, Moore recalled the words and thought they best described his life as an observer.
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbour and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
