Photograph of the Russian Barracks in Sevastopol, taken from the Redan. The long barrack buildings are surrounded by ruined buildings. In the foreground there is a rocky hill and the harbour can be seen to the right. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on 8th September 1855. Lefevre photographed a number of strategic fortresses and buildings shortly after they had been abandoned by the Russians.
