In July 1933 Weston returned to New Mexico with Willard Van Dyke and Sonya Noskowiak. There he was struck by the richness of its environs: 'Besides the visual memories brought back of a magnificent country-Arizona, New Mexico and my own California-I have some fine new work; landscapes with gorgeous heavens-I was continuously reminded of old Mexico-details of various pueblos, the old church at Laguna, the perfectly formed and functional ovens against equally perfect walls of adobe.' (The Daybooks, California, p. 275). Weston's acute emphasis on the formal aspects of the image are evident in the contrasting shapes of the adobes, the ovens and the dramatic light that falls over the forms.
 
Conger has located an impression of this print in the Huntington Library, San Marino, and a Project Print at Santa Cruz. His negative log at CCP indicates that, of the projected edition of 50 from the negative (30A), only five prints were made.
