Photograph of the Thompson River in British Columbia, running vertically through the frame, with mountain ranges on either side. Trees populate the banks of the river and on parts of the mountain slopes.
The Thompson River was named after the explorer, David Thompson (1770-1857). Born in London, Thompson was also a fur trader and map maker. He left England for Canada in 1784 after entering an apprenticeship with the Hudson bay Company. He died at Longueuil, Canada.
