Carte de visite Archives of Modern Conflict OR National Gallery of Canada Illustrated above is an example of a carte de visite being used at the Universal Exhibit of 1867 in Paris specifically
as a "photo ID" to further verify the identity of the ticket holder. The attendee is a Mr. Kirkpatrick and the CDV
is affixed with a very official looking paper label glued and folded from the front of the CDV and wrapped around
the back. There is also a blind stamp imprinted in the upper left hand corner of the cdv itself. Cleverly, the subject
was posed in a chair to have his image reproduced on a specific part of the plate in order for the label to start just
below his chest, allowing a full view of his upper torso, shoulders and face. (Matt Isenburg)
