Hans Christian Ørsted, or H. C. Ørsted, born 14 August 1777 in Rudkøbing, died 9 March 1851 in Copenhagen, Danish physicist, chemist, and pharmacist.

Hans Christian Ørsted discovered electromagnetism in 1820. In that context he played an important role in the introduction of photography (the daguerreotype) in Denmark.
