The road in this photograph was known as the Cariboo Wagon road that linked Yale with Barkerville in British Columbia. Construction of the road was initiated by the then Governor of British Columbia, James Douglas (1803-77), as a safe way in which to transport gold that had been mined in the region. The road was updated using modern engineering methods during the 1950's.
