Phyllis Galembo is known for her remarkable portraits of Africans and Caribbeans, which also explore religious beliefs and rituals, including the practice of voodoo.
 
Her works are included in the: Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; New York Public Library; Houston Museum of Art; Polaroid Corporation, Boston, Massachusetts; and Rockefeller Foundation, New York.
