…En 1906, Alfred Lacroix, professeur au Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, à Paris, était remercié pour le don de deux daguerréotypes de Reykjavik, exécutés en 1846 par Alfred Descloizeaux au cours d'une mission scientifique. Ce dernier souhaitait rapporter des échantillons de cristaux de spath pour ses travaux sur la cristallographie. Il débarqua en Islande en mai 1845. On peut lire dans ses carnets, conservés à la bibliothèque de l'Institut de France, à la date du 27 juin : "J'attrape deux vues de la rade et de la ville en 45 secondes - très nettes". Cette vue correspond à l'un des deux daguerréotypes : on distingue la résidence du gouverneur, les magasins de Knudtzon, la maison du juge et le collège en construction. Ces daguerréotypes, les premiers réalisés en Islande, ont été présentés en l'an 2000 au Musée national d'Islande dans le cadre de l'exposition "Photographes français en Islande 1845-1900
 
[English translation] In 1906, Alfred Lacroix, a professor at the National Museum of Natural History in Paris, was thanked for the donation of two daguerreotypes of Reykjavik, taken in 1846 by Alfred Descloizeaux during a scientific mission. The latter wished to bring back samples of spar crystals for his work on crystallography. He landed in Iceland in May 1845. In his notebooks, preserved at the library of the Institut de France, one can read under the date of June 27: "I captured two views of the harbor and the town in 45 seconds - very sharp." This view corresponds to one of the two daguerreotypes: one can distinguish the governor's residence, the Knudtzon stores, the judge's house, and the high school under construction. These daguerreotypes, the first ever made in Iceland, were presented in the year 2000 at the National Museum of Iceland as part of the exhibition "French Photographers in Iceland 1845-1900."
