Hints for Dress

To produce a rich and harmonious picture, the sitter should dress in neither light or dark colors exclusively, but a judicious mixture of both. For persons of light complexion, light colors, as blue, pink, pale green, or grey should predominate. Those of dark complexion should dress in darker colors, green, yellow, red or black. Dark dresses should always be relieved by light colors in the shape of trimming, ribbons, laces, furs, capes or such like, and light dresses should be relieved in like manner by darker colors. The more variety in dress, the richer will be the picture.

Head dresses, crimps, puffs or flowing hair, give additional elegance.
