The original photograph was taken by Henry Hering and includes a portrait of Prince Albert (center to the right of Queen Victoria). Prince Albert died 14 December 1861.
 
This photomontage was copied onto a photomicrograph by Alfred Reeves who is sometimes credited as the photographer.
