Acquisition/Associated name: This image is stored in a box labelled as "William Blackmore". There is no associated documentation to determine that the collection was acquired from the Blackmore Museum, Salisbury in 1932, at the same time as Blackmore albums within the BM Pictorial Collection.
The Smithsonian Institute own a stereoscope of the same image: NAA INV 09847400. Identified photographer as B F Childs, published by C B Brubaker and C F Johnston.
 
Smithsonian Archives Catalogue Card: A copy of the catalogue card for this image can be found in the PicDoc for this image. The catalogue card indicates that the Smithsonian Institution owns a negative of this image, number: 44,428. The following further information is on the catalogue card:
"TRIBE: Chippewa
SUBJECT: Charlotte Bawgam with infant daughter Mon-ee (Mary) Bawgam, also identified as Mrs Lo and Negee.
SUBMITTED BY: Copy from photo borrowed from Mich. historical Commission, Oct 1956.
DATE: Ca. 185- or 186-
REMARKS: Neg. made from apparently recnetly made copy print. Typed on back is: "Charlotte Bawgam wife of Chippewa Indian Chief Charley Bawgam and daughter of Chief Marji-Gesick with her papoose Mon-ee (Mary) Bawgam. R.A. Brotherton, Negaunee, Mich."
