Henry Draper (1837-1882) followed in his famous father's footsteps as a medical doctor and amateur photographer. He served as a surgeon in the Twelfth Regiment of the New York State Militia for three months in the summer of 1862. By this time he had already built his astronomical observatory in Hastings-on-Hudson, and a year later he took his famous photographs of the moon.
