Unidentified photographer
n.d.
Portrait of a woman within a cave looking out to sea
Cabinet card
Private collection of Jack and Beverly Wilgus
This photograph has an unusual the cliché verre background.
(Beverly Wilgus, 18 May 2020) Cliché verre is French for "glass plate" and described a hand made negative. The lady is a real photograph and it seems most likely that the area around her was covered with an opaque material and the image was scratched into it. We would call this a photogram.
