Based on a lost daguerreotype made ca. 1843 by Phillip Haas (active 1839-57).

There are two main differences between this and a later surviving copy of the Phillip Haas portrait made by Southworth & Hawes. Firstly the legs are crossed differently, in the lithograph his left leg is over his right leg rather than the other way round and secondly he holds a book in his hands rather than a hankerchief.
