Otto Steinert's image of a rotating wire sculpture was influenced by Oskar Schlemmer's movement and figure studies at the Bauhaus. A variant of the figure in the image offered here was used in one of Steinert's most important works entitled "Strenges Ballett - Hommage à Oskar Schlemmer" (1949). The figure's programmatic statement was so important to Steinert that he used it for the cover design of the catalogue for the first exhibition "Subjektive Fotgrafie" in Saarbrücken, July 1951. Herbert Strässer was Steinert's most important collaborator in choosing the pictures to be shown and the exhibition design. The photo work offered here is a rare and unique design which was ultimately not used for the final version, but which shows the work process of the design.
