Photograph of diamond workers in Griqualand-West. There are two men sorting earth at a low makeshift wooden table and young men to either side of them holding wooden trays. Other people are gathered around them, some holding shovels. There are tents and wooden huts behind. Griqualand-West was a British colony in southern Africa. The discovery of diamonds in the area led to vast excavation sites and the mass immigration of workers.
