Ürge departed for Chefubang, China in 1880, where he founded a hospital and an orphanage. With his imposing character and exotic clothes he soon became a celebrity when visited his native country to raise funds. This photograph by Vilmos Wietz (1839-1916) of Nagyszombat (today Trnava, Slovakia) was reproduced in line engraving in Hungary's most popular magazine of the time.
