Photograph of the town of Kimberley. There is an open space in the foreground with a road leading off it. The road is busy with horses, carts and people. Simple buildings line both sides of the road. The Kimberley Mine was a major diamond excavation site in Griqualand-West, a British colony in southern Africa. A large town was established nearby to accommodate the mass immigration of workers.
