Japanese Man Named Kato - Meiji Period Portrait (case)

Ambrotype
4.3 x 3 in (109 x 76 mm)

Charles Schwartz Ltd
A stunningly detailed and beautifully composed portrait from the Meiji Period. Man is identified by inscription on case as Kato, and the location as Nishihata. The date is April, Meiji 22 (1889). Near-mint condition of both case and image, with marvelously clear calligraphy on inside top cover.
