Chester Harding had a studio on School Street near Bemis' dental office. He was a patient in Bemis' practice by 1832. Harding was an avid fisherman and probably passed on his love of fishing to Bemis. The two traveled to New Hampshire on several occasions where they fished, hunted, and camped in the backcountry. Harding also painted in New Hampshire.
