Infanta Isabella of Spain, daughter of Queen Isabel II
Carte de visite
Paul FreckerThe daughter of Queen Isabel II of Spain, for two periods, each lasting some six years, she was the Heir Presumptive to the Spanish throne. The most beloved member of the royal family, she was affectionately known by the Spanish people as 'La Chata' [literally,
the flat nosed one.] When the Second Republic was proclaimed on 14 April 1931, although she was ill and almost 80, and despite the fact that she could have stayed in Madrid, where she was still enormously popular, she joined the rest of the royal family in exile in Paris. Five days later, she died in the convent at Auteuil on 23 April 1931.
