Private collection of George Pek
The following comment kindly proved by George Pek provides the context.

He was in Canada at the time in late October 1929 for a couple of weeks, and probably drove East to P.E.I. before he took his picture of "Mt. Tremblant 29 below!" It quotes on page. 54 in his autobiography Man + Camera, "Jo (his wife) and I decided to drive to Canada in our flashy new Stearns-Knight automoblie, complete with jaunty rumble seat. It was late October, 1929, when we left New York. Somewhere between Quebec City and Montreal, we heard the news of the New York stock market crash."
