Bassenge Photography Auctions
Courtesy of Bassenge, Berlin (Photography, Sale: 90, Lot: 4067, Dec 5, 2007)

Signed and numbered 22 by the photographer in lower left corner, flush-mounted to original card (slightly soiled) with title printed below the image on the mount. The Hotel Shepheard was one of the most popular hotels in Cairo during the mid-nineteenth century and Baedeker lists it as the favorite hotel of English tourists; consequently many photographer's, including Hammerschmidt himself, stayed there.
