Moved in 1980 to it's present location, at the intersection of 7th and F Street, NW.á on the grounds of the Smithsonian Institution's Donald W. Reynolds Center for American Art and Portraiture, near the southeast corner of the National Portrait Gallery.á
 
A rededication plaque was added next to the monument in 1989. It was sponsored by the Professional Photographers of America in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of photography.
 
This illustration was included in the lecture "The many faces of Daguerre" presented by Matt Isenburg at the Daguerreian Society Symposium (2009).
