This 1/2 plate oval daguerreotype definitely IS French as can be. The warm tone of the silver is set off by the burgundy silk pad. The clear-skinned face rests upon a lighter white delicate lace collar. The deep black of the probably black velvet dress is rarely achieved in daguerreotypes. One hand rests almost weightlessly on the other. The face holds up to long scrutiny-- just a fine portrait.
