She is depicted wearing a crown and dark velvet dress with a sash.
Queen Victoria wrote about the sitting for Clifford in her journal: 'photographed for the Queen of Spain by Mr. Clifford. He brought me one of [her portraits], taken by him' (14 November 1861).
