I had photographed Eric Meola, who is known for is incredible color photographs, earlier in the day that I shot Dan and the Polaroids of Eric were still pinned to the studio wall. We shot several images of Dan and he kept commenting that the red in the woman's dress (Sally Grossman, wife of Dylan's manager Albert Grossman) should be "more red". "Look at the red in Eric's shot," he commented. After a few more takes, he went back to the wall where the images hung side by side, "Well, that's Eric Meola, his reds will always me more colorful than mine!" Dan was up for a grammy for this photo of Bob Dylan, the cover of Bringing It All Back Home in 1965.
