This photograph was originally titled "LIFE photographer Loomis Dean trailed by line of porters while on assignment in Africa.". Christopher Dean, the son of Loomis Dean, pointed out [pers. Comm. 30 Dec 2009] that he was on the trip with his father and the person in the photograph is Dr. Vescuren, a Belgian doctor in the Congo and Ruanda in 1961.
