(Jack Wilgus, January 2026) This is a photograph that was inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Dormouse character in “A Mad Tea-Party”, Chapter VII from the 1865 novel “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.” This photograph is by Herbert Rose Barraud and was published by Carson and Comerford in 1887. Although it is not a Carroll photo it is still a fanciful and fun image. It is a Woodburytype showing Phoebe Carlo as Alice and Dorothy D'Alcourt as the Dormouse in a play based on Carroll’s stories at the Prince of Wales’s Theatre in 1887.
