Anna May-Wong (1905-1961), who grew up in Los Angeles' China Town, taught herself acting and got a leading role in a silent film at the age of 17. With her Asian ancestry, she was a major exception in the US film business at the time and was limited to the role of a China Doll. To expand her repertoire of roles, she filmed in Europe from 1928 to 1930 and during this time also visited Vienna. Here she was portrayed in various settings and costumes at Studio Manassé.
