Portrait of an unknown woman [The Dernier effect to soften the portrait]

Cabinet card
Private collection of Sergey Maximishin
Contact printing with two sandwich-folded identical glass negatives. One of the negatives due to the geometric distance from paper gives light focus. The softness of the contours, allegedly giving pictures picturesque, was called the Denier effect, because it was the first time in Russia that was used by Andrei Denier.
