Four and a Half Billion. The Earth is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old. Geological intervals of time are too long to be comprehensible to minds thinking in terms of weeks, days, and years. This series of images looks at accumulations and self organized matter as empirical evidence of restorative cycles. By examining both natural and fabricated time cycles, one begins to better grasp the amount of time represented by the age of the earth.
The series was produced in the fall/winter of 2008/2009 as my final series for my undergrad at NSCAD. The images were shot primarily on 4" x 5" black and white negatives, enlarged to 16" x20" on selenium toned fiber paper.
