Charles Rhein (1879-1960) was by then the chief photographer of the company founded in 1894 in Antwerp, Belgium, arising from the workshop for the manufacture of photographic paper belonging to Lieven Gevaert. (In 1964, Agfa and Gevaert merged… with Bayer AG and Gevaert each holding a 50% interest in the new operating company).
