Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS)
(Sergio Burgi, IMS, Facebook, 8 September 2021) Follow the announcement of the launch of the IMS Photography Research Scholarship 2021 program, which from this year goes on to offer two scholarships of R$ 30.000,00 each for research projects around themes and sets of images integral to the institute's acquisition . This year the scholarships are specifically aimed at the selection of two critical analysis projects from the series of photographs produced in the Amazon in 1867/1868 by German photographer Albert Frisch, including a significant set of images of people from that region. One of the scholarships will be specifically aimed at indigenous researchers, thus seeking a critical reading of this series of images from those who were the subject of this first construction, representation and photographic appropriation of the region and its inhabitants, produced jointly by a European photographer and editor , Albert Frisch and Georges Leuzinger, at the same time the Amazonas River was open to international navigation, intensifying from that moment the various processes and cycles of occupation, exploitation, and also violence and destruction in the region. Check out the editorial. We thank, in advance, everyone who comes to contribute to the wide dissemination of this program to support research around photography in Brazil, which is now expanding in its fourth edition.
