Unidentified photographer (American) n.d. School house with teacher and pupils
Real photo postcard Private collection of Pat Street There is no information for this postcard. The children are all nicely dressed -- they may have known the photographer was coming that day. This is a somewhat unusual pose for a school photo. The kids' ages range from six or seven to a girl who looks to be fifteen standing behind the teacher. Note the school bell and the flagpole. There were often two front doors for the school -- one for boys and one for girls. It looks like the enclosed entryway had a door on either side. (Not clear to my why a one-room school, or indeed any school, would have separate entrances for boys and girls. The large brick grammar school I went to in the 1940s in NJ was built in 1908 and it had separate entrances.)
