Jean-Gabriel Eynard
1845
Chateau Eynard Geneve

Daguerreotype, 2/3 plate
Christie's - New York
Online auction 24192, The Maillet Daguerreotype Collection, 26 June 2025, Lot: 13

Born in Lyon, France, Jean Gabriel Eynard (1775-1863) learned the daguerreotype process in Paris in the nascent years of the medium. A man of considerable wealth, he pursued the daguerreotype for personal enjoyment and often photographed his family and home life in Geneva, as is depicted in the daguerreotype offered in this collection. The Palais Eynard, on rue de l'Athenee, Geneva, Switzerland, was built c.1817 as the private house of Jean-Gabriel Eynard, and is now the city Conseil Administratif.

Eynard’s work can be found in the collection of The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles; and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.
