Rows of Women Army Auxillary Corps. After having put on their gas masks for training drill in Fort Des Moines, which was where the first Women's Army Auxillary Corps (WAAC's) was established in 1942. On September 1, 1943, the WAAC was converted to the Women's Army Corps (WAC) as part of the Regular Army.
