Eiraku-do 1893 Studio Portrait of the Kobayashis, and Others, Traditional Dress (case)
Ambrotype Charles Schwartz Ltd This photographic studio was in the remote area of Yashima Ugo (now known as Akita Prefecture), employed the ambrotype process even though other, more advanced processes were then available in Japan evidence of the remoteness of the location. Inscription of back of case reads: "Meiji 25, June, was taken --Nakagawa --?, age 20 --Ima Shouko, age 5 --Kobayashi Itsuko, age 14 --Kobayashi Tatsuko, age 18."
